October 15th is Infant Loss and Rememberance Day. This date is significant to Paper Angels because our Christmas Card Workshops are supporting the Mater Mother's Bereavement Support Program. Whilst we have only conducted the first two of 6 workshops, we have already been able to make a practical contribution to this very special program. Two 'Paper Angel's' (Leonie & Liz) delivered 2 boxes of very special equipment to the Mater on behalf of the entire group. The first box contained all the equipment the staff at the Mater will need to create special personal name cards for both the 'angel' babies as well as for babies in the special and intensive care areas. Paper Angels have made decorative name cards in pink, blue and green - all the nursing staff will need to do is use the alphabet stamps to stamp the babies name in a matching colour onto the white strip which will be adhered to the card. Nursing staff were able to practice doing this with Leonie and Liz's assistance, making name cards for some bubs on the ward.
The second box contains all the materials the nursing staff will need to create footprint cards for the 'angel' babies. For parents who sadly do not get to take their baby home, these footprints are very special.
The cards have been designed to fit within the memory books provided to the parents. Again, the complete backing card has been made by Paper Angels, with the nursing staff then stamping the littel babies footprint onto white card which is then adhered to the backing card.
Paper Angels will work throughout the year to continue to supply the completed cards and ensure any consumables, such as adhesive, are kept fully stocked. We are also working towards providing a second set of boxes to the Mater. Beyond that, we have been told that there are other hospitals in need of these resources, and we will be looking to do what we can to help.
